Tosca Ristorante
Whether you’re planning a quiet one-on-one dinner, a large business luncheon or a small private gathering, you’ll need look no further than Tosca Ristorante for a delectable, authentically Italian experience that all will enjoy. Named for the famous opera, this well-established, family-owned Italian eatery has been a delight to Ottawa pasta-lovers for more than a generation. Its expansive menu covers everything from gourmet pizzas to seafood and steak, leaving no tastes unsatisfied no matter what you’re craving!
Having charmed Ottawa diners in its former Metcalfe Street location for over a decade, Tosca moved to its new home on O’Connor Street in June 2007. The interior look was updated to a sleeker, more contemporary decor during the move, but the restaurant continues to serve the same homestyle traditional cuisine with a modern twist that earned Tosca its well-deserved reputation and loyal repeat clientele.

Known in Ottawa for its simple, fresh ingredients and reinvention of classic dishes with a dash of imagination, Tosca’s menu continues to impress new and returning customers. Head chef Domenico Direnzo, the man behind Tosca’s innovative kitchen, has been with the restaurant for 25 years. Born in Abruzzo in Italy, Direnzo worked in Rome and Montreal before settling down at Tosca with his famous original recipes.

Walking into Tosca, customers immediately feel relaxed and comfortable. The atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming, and the roomy, modern interior can seat up to 130 diners. Outdoors, the 100-seat patio comes to life in the summertime, and is the perfect place to drop in with friends for an evening cocktail. Contemporary Italian music can usually be heard in the dining room, but live musicians sometimes make an appearance on special occasions.

The building where Tosca currently makes its home used to be a bank, and the former vault has been converted into a unique private Tuscan room, where parties of up to 12 people can be seated at a large European table. The restaurant can also accommodate very large groups in the main dining area.

A variety of social events are hosted at the restaurant, and on a typical weekend Tosca will play host to birthday parties, bachelorette parties, showers, communion dinners and anniversary celebrations. People of all ages enjoy Tosca’s acclaimed cuisine and warm atmosphere, whether dining out with family or spending a night out with a date. Many customers wear casual dress, although some diners love to dress up for dinner in suits and skirts - anything goes.

The restaurant’s signature plates range from appetizers to pasta and meat dishes. Linguine pescatore is a perpetual favourite, with a mix of mussels, clams, shrimp and scallops tossed in a delicious roma tomato sauce or homestyle cream sauce. The Calabrese Pizza is also a classic, combining Italian sausage and roasted peppers with mozzarella cheese on a delectable crust. Behind the bar, regulars are bound to be ordering the Tosca Tini, Tosca’s beloved specialty martini. For the wine lover, the bar also offers a vast range of over 100 Italian and international wine choices by the glass. And don’t forget to sample some Italian grappa!

Reservations are recommended, and bookings for up to 20 people can be confirmed instantly online, so check out Tosca’s website to secure your table. To book larger groups or to reserve the Tuscan room for a private function, contact the restaurant directly as early as possible to ensure you can be accommodated.
