Opened in 2001, Restaurant e18hteen was envisioned as a a dinner destination with a cosmopolitan feel, devoted to showcasing outstanding regional cuisine. In the last decade, e18hteen has established itself as one of Ottawa’s top restaurants for both cuisine and atmosphere, proudly offering one of the capital’s most creative and tantalizing menus.
Located near Parliament Hill and the National Art Gallery, the restaurant is within walking distance of downtown in the popular Byward Market neighbourhood.  The patio is sun-drenched in the afternoon, and its marble tables offer the perfect place to sit down for evening cocktails while never straying too far from the action.  Friday and Saturday feature late-night DJs spinning in the large lounge area, and acid jazz can be heard in the background most evenings, so there’s no need to go elsewhere for entertainment after dinner!      

Restaurant e18hteen is housed in a heritage building, but the interior has been modernized and was renovated completely upon the restaurant's opening.  Impeccably designed to create a chic, unique atmosphere, e18hteen provides an elegant and luxurious backdrop for a memorable dinner experience.  With a selection described as “steak and seafood with a regional influence,” e18hteen has a license to innovate, and it’s used often. Head chef Matthew Carmichael is dedicated to incorporating the best Canadian ingredients into his regionally-influenced menu, which varies with the seasons to introduce new selections.  

Carmichael is well-versed in the connections between food and culture, having written a thesis at the University of Ottawa about the relationship between a country’s tourism and its cuisine.  After spending several years working with globally famous talent including top chef Susur Lee, Carmichael is a worldly chef with a keen taste for local flavours.  Carmichael is currently working his magic in the kitchens of both e18hteen and SOCIAL, inspiring a new generation of fresh culinary talent and continually proving himself as one of Ottawa’s most innovative chefs.

Signature dishes at e18hteen include anything from espresso crusted ostrich to a juicy, 18 oz ribeye steak - there’s something on offer for every taste.  Seafood is also a specialty not to miss out on: Crab(squared) is an appetizer favourite that features a soft shell crab tempura with crab cake and spicy mayo, and the Lacquered BC Black Cod is highly recommended from the dinner menu. Restaurant e18hteen boasts a Raw Bar that offers fresh oysters and seafood daily.        

The dinner menu is outstanding, but dessert lovers, too, have a treat in store for them: e18hteen’s pastry chef, Lia Turcotte, is one of the top pastry chefs in the city and country.  Her cutting-edge creations have brought dessert to a new level in Ottawa and have garnered much well-deserved praise.  Her specialty is a deep chocolate torte with vanilla-salt caramel gelato, finished off with bitter cocoa crunch.

If you want to pair the ideal drink with your meal, e18hteen's wine team is on hand, made up of five experienced sommeliers.  They can recommend the perfect selection from a great wine list that features elite wines in every price category.  The wine room is a also a semi-private room that can accommodate parties of up to thirty people by request.

Restaurant e18hteen is a popular destination for special events, and the venue has hosted many weddings, charity fundraisers and cocktail parties.  Several group menus are available for larger parties, and groups can expect VIP treatment:  the service is perpetually excellent, and the staff are knowledgeable and welcoming.  At Restaurant e18hteen, you can always expect the ultimate fusion of first-class cuisine and entertainment.
